Certification Requirements

Certification through the Beginner Driver Education (BDE) Program is only granted to students who complete all course components in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation's regulations.

To be certified, you must successfully complete:

• 20 hours of online theory (with a minimum 70% passing grade)
• 10 hours of take-home assignments (also with at least 70%)
• 10 hours of in-car training

This full course must be finished within 12 months of your registration date.

BDE Certificate Issuance

Since 2008, driving schools no longer issue BDE certificates directly. Once you finish the program, you can request your Driver's License History (DLH) through Service Ontario. This official document will confirm your completion of the BDE program.

The DLH is available for a fee (currently $12).
